BLOSSVALE >> Dominick Pulverenti, 90, of Blossvale, died on Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Colonial Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Rome, following a brief illness.
He was born on Sept. 28, 1922, in Eastwood, the son of Rosario and Santa Farfaglia Pulverenti.
Dominick spent his early years in Eastwood, attending school there. He lived in Canastota for many years, later living in Oneida from 1965-1988, and has lived in Blossvale for the past 25 years, until his recent illness.
He worked for the former Henney Motors in Canastota, Auto Finishers Supply in Syracuse, and later owned and operated the Elm Grill in Oneida, which became the Gin Mill Tavern, which he ran in partnership with his son, Dominick, for many years. He had, also, worked at the Oneida Service Center with his son, Bob, for several years.
Dominick was a member of St. Agatha's Church in Canastota, and, also, the Loyal Order of Moose and the DKUV in Oneida.
He was an avid fisherman, and leaves behind his fishing buddy, Hank Leo of Oneida.
Surviving are: the mother of his children, Heloise Pratt Lewis of Taberg; his longtime companion, Josephine Piersall of Blossvale; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Brenda Pulverenti of Raleigh, N.C., and Dominick R. and Francia Pulverenti of Oneida Castle; two daughters, Donna Besock and her companion, Gil Araism, of Wampsville, and Paula Pulverenti of Oneida; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Anthony "Tony" and Betty Tornatore of Wampsville, and Joseph "Joe" and Davita Tornatore of Canastota; six grandchildren, Denise and Doug Holdridge, Andrea and David Harris, Valarie Besock, Melanie Besock, Robbie and Jessica Besock, and a special grandson, Paul Jr. and Carrie Ward; three great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dominick was predeceased by a grandson, Richard "Rick" Ward; and a sister and brother-in-law, Jennie and Joseph Contrea.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, at St. Agatha's Church, Canastota, where a funeral mass will be held. Burial will be in St. Agatha's Cemetery, Canastota. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, from 3-7 p.m. at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, 201 James St., Canastota. In his memory, contributions may be made to St. Agatha's Church, 329 N. Peterboro St., Canastota, N.Y. 13032, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
