The Rev. Fredrick H. Jackson Obituary
ONEIDA >> Rev. Fredrick H. Jackson, 90, of Oneida passed away on Aug. 20, 2014 at the Oneida Healthcare Center after a brief illness.
He was born April 15, 1924 in Shells Bush, N.Y. a son of Fredrick and Martha Spurr Jackson. He grew up in Mohawk, N.Y. and when he was in 8th grade, represented Herkimer County in the New York State Spelling Championship. On Dec. 31, 1945 he married the former M. Alice Smith in Frankfort, N.Y. She passed away Nov. 12, 2007. Fred attended the Utica School of Commerce prior to his call to ministry. While earning his bachelor's degree from Syracuse University he served as pastor of the North Bay, Vienna and Jewell United Methodist Churches. He then attended the Colgate Rochester Divinity School and became an ordained minister of the United Methodist Church. For 35 years, Rev. Jackson served various churches in Central New York and the Finger Lakes regions. Fred was always involved with youth, and directed a Junior High Church Camp for many years. In 1989, he and Alice returned to Camden, N.Y. and became active members of the Camden United Methodist Church.
During his retirement years, Fred served as a 'fill in' pastor for many area churches as well as a part time auditor for the Camden Central Schools. Fred was active in community service as well, serving as volunteer fireman, ambulance driver and as an active Rotarian. After the passing of his wife, Fred moved to Oneida and was a devoted member of the Oneida First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Lorraine Story, Camden; three sons, Mark and Glenda Jackson, Rome, Stuart and Anne Jackson, Moline, Ill., and Doug and Phyllis Jackson, Oneida, as well as seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 3 p.m. Friday from the United Methodist Church, Camden, N.Y. under the direction of LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Camden, N.Y. Private interment in Crown Hill Memorial Park. Calling hours will be held from 2-3 p.m. prior to services.
