VERNON >> Grace Remis Jones, 93, Judson Drive, died early Tuesday morning, Oct. 1, 2013 in the Oneida Healthcare Center, where she had been a patient for the past four days.
Born in Chadwicks on Sept. 20, 1920, she was the daughter of William H. and Elva V. Hunter Boss. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a graduate of Clinton High School. She married George J. Remis in St. Patrick's Church on Sept. 20, 1947. Mr. Remis died Aug. 26, 1971. Grace later married William G. Jones in St. Paul's United Methodist Church on May 10, 1975. Mr. Jones died Sept. 2, 2002.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed with Oneida Animal Hospital as the office manager. Mrs. Jones was a communicant of the Holy Family Church, a member of the YMCA County Connection 2 Steps, the Oneida Healthcare Center Auxiliary, where she served on the board and was a devoted volunteer for the hospital, a member of the Woodmen of the World, Women of the Moose, Oneida Chapter No. 272, Munnsville American Legion Post No. 54 Auxiliary, Madison County American Legion No. 306 Auxiliary, Madison County 8 et 40, Society, American Association of Retired Persons Oneida Chapter No. 3328, the Recreation Powder Puff League, Sherrill Grange and served as Dog Warden for the City of Oneida.
Surviving are three daughters and one son-in-law, Georgiann Woodcock Harrington of Palm Harbor, Fla., Nancy and Dale Lawton of Verona and Jacqulyn Remis of Oneida; one son and daughter in-law, George W. "Bill" and Sandi Remis of Madison, Wis.; three step-daughters, Cheryl Collins and her husband, Christopher of Verona, Valarie Burns and her husband, Michael of Wampsville and Allison Jones of Seattle, Wash.; one stepson, Gregory Jones and his wife Susan of Belmont, N.C.; nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 9:15 a.m., Saturday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida and 10 a.m. from the Holy Family Church with Rev. Deacon Elbert Niles, officiating. Interment will be made in St. Helena's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday and 8-9 a.m. Saturday.
