CHITTENANGO - Mary Theresa Brown, 96, of Chittenango, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012 in her family home from the time of her birth on Canaseraga Road.

Mary Theresa was born Aug. 14, 1916, a daughter of Elizabeth Connell Brown and Joseph Francis Brown. She was a graduate of Chittenango High School and a 1937 graduate of Cortland Normal School, later known as SUNY at Cortland. She later attended summer sessions at Oswego, University at Buffalo, Syracuse University and New York University. She was a teacher in the Canastota School District for 36 years. She also taught several summers at Syracuse University. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. As a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Chittenango, she was one of the members of the first Parish Council and served as its secretary for several years. She was also an active member of the Altar & Rosary Society at one time.
Surviving are her brother, John James Brown and several cousins. She was predeceased by her sister, Alice Brown on Sept. 15, 2012.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Church, Chittenango. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Chittenango. A prayer service will be held 9:30 a.m. Friday at the G.F. Zimmer Funeral Home, 702 Legion Drive, Chittenango. Friends are invited to greet the family from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Church, 1341 Murray Drive, Chittenango, N.Y. 13037 or Hospice of CNY, 990 Seventh North St. Liverpool, N.Y. 13088.
