Robert J. Corona Sr. Obituary
SYLVAN BEACH >> Robert J. Corona Sr., 77, of Sylvan Beach and formerly of Oneida, died peacefully Feb. 18, 2014 in Port St. Lucie, Fla., surrounded by his family.
Bob was born in Oneonta, N.Y., the son of the late Jerry and Mary Corona. Bob graduated from Oneida High School and Oswego State University. He retired from Oneida High School after teaching and coaching for 30 years. Bob excelled in many high school sports and went on to play college basketball for Oswego State. He had great passion and skill for the game of golf. More than winning tournaments and individual championships, he enjoyed his friends at the golf course. He was blessed with many friends. It was not unusual to hear "Mr. Corona was my favorite teacher, Coach Corona was my favorite coach, and Bob Corona was my good friend."
Bob was an active member of the Oneida Elks Club and a member of St. Mary's Church in Sylvan Beach.
Bob is survived by Barbara Corona, his wife of 57 years; his sister, Kate Corona (Syracuse, N.Y.); brother Tom Corona (and wife Andrea of Skaneateles, N.Y.); sister Judy Corona (Sacramento, Calif.); brothers Lance Walter (Auburn) and George Walter (Seneca Falls); his two sons Robert Corona (and wife Kim of Skaneateles, N.Y.) and Brian Corona (Pasadena, Calif.); his five grandchildren, Kaitlin Corona (Syracuse), Kara Corona (Naples, Fla.), Robert Christopher Corona (Skaneateles, N.Y.), Tiamo Corona and Damiano Corona (Pasadena, Calif.). His brother Jerry "Corky" Corona predeceased Bob. Bob was especially close to his brother and sister-in-law Eddie and Leslie Stewart, his nephew "Ricky" Stewart and niece Alison (Stewart) Cuchiarale.
A celebration of life service will be scheduled for late spring/early summer 2014. The family has requested that any donations be made in lieu of flowers to:
