For most of his life he worked at the Oneida Heater Company, where he was ultimately president and sole stockholder. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and District Governor for Rotary International, served as an Approved Supply Pastor for the United Methodist Church, and went behind the Iron Curtain on a People To People mission with a group of New York State Methodist clergy.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Anne Clinch, and four brothers, Richard, Olin, Edward, and Willard Clinch.
When asked how he wanted to be remembered, Clinch said, "I was an honest, faithful husband and father. My family was the most important part of my life."
