George Thomas Lanz Obituary
ONEIDA -- George Thomas Lanz, 77, of 348 Harden St. died Thursday afternoon, Jan. 31, 2013, in the Oneida Healthcare Center, shortly after his admission.
He was born Sept. 12, 1935, in Oneida, the son of Thomas and Madeline Graves Lanz. In 1960, he was united in marriage to LaWanda Mowers. Mrs. Lanz died Jan. 26, 2009. He was employed for 25 years with Oneida Ltd. Silversmiths. He retired in 1985.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Navy for four years. He was a member of the Sherrill American Legion Post No. 230, and was a member of the Oneida Owls Nest No. 1606. For many years he was a nanny to two very special children, in Georgia and Texas, Katy and Thomas.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Terrie and Ronda Lanz, of Oneida; Keith and Amy Lanz, of Oneida; his daughters, Kellie and Will Highers, of Oneida, Dawn Lanz, of Oneida, Teddie Sue Cummings and her companion, Dennis Harp; his grandchildren, Eric and Emilee Lanz, Rene, Kimberly, and Benjamin Highers, D.J. and Billy Jaeger, Samantha, Abigail and Robert Lanz, Cheyenne and Cassondra Cummings and Savanna Harp; his great-grandchildren, Peyton, Lincoln, Ethan, Sage, Hayden Audrey and Hailey; three brothers, Arthur and Pat Lanz, Charles Lanz, and Donald and Mary Jane Lanz; three sisters, Geraldine Haskell, Elizabeth (Liz ) Houseman, and Patricia Trost, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at 2 p.m. from the Coolican-McSweeney Funeral Home, 322 Washington Ave., Oneida. Interment will be made in Oneida Castle Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 12-2 p.m. preceding the service.
