SHERRILL >> John J. McLaughlin passed away on April 6, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital in New Hartford after a long illness.
Jack was born in Sherrill, N.Y. on Oct. 14, 1927 a son of late James and Margaret McLaughlin.
Jack spent most of his life in Sherrill. He graduated from Sherrill High School in 1945, where he was very active in sports.
In 1956 he married Flora Totton in Sherrill, N.Y. Flora passed away in 2006.
Before retiring Jack spent 30 years as a letter carrier at the Sherrill Post Office.
He proudly served his country with the Army in 1946-1947, serving in Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1947. He was a long time member of Sherrill Post 230 American Legion.
Jack loved golfing, walking and doing crossword puzzles. He was active in Little League and coached for many years.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Rome.
Jack is survived by a daughter, Jill Santi; a grandson, Brian Santi; a granddaughter, Beth Weigel of Ft Myers, Fla.; his companion of 22 years, Frances Henderson of Rome; a sister, Jeanette Gostling of Waterville; a brother, Richard of Sherrill and many nieces and nephews.
Jack was predeceased by his wife Flo; two sisters, Kathleen (Bill) Henderson, Alice (George) Suits; two brothers, William (Cecile) McLaughlin Frederick (Beverley) McLaughlin and two nieces, Nancy Cummings and Kathy Suits, and a brother-in-law Edward Gostling.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4-6 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 464 Sherrill Road, Sherrill, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Helena's Church, Primo Avenue, Sherrill. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Stokes, N.Y. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the in memory of Jack.
