Jon A. Campbell, 70, Seneca Street, died Monday, June 25, 2012, in the Oneida Healthcare Center, shortly after his admission as a medical patient.
Born in Rome, on April 18, 1942, he was a son of Howard G. and Barbara Morrow Campbell. A resident of Oneida for the past 33 years, having been raised in the Sylvan-Verona Beach areas, Jon was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1959 and later attained his associates degree in electrical engineering from Mohawk Valley Community College. He married Kathleen Messmer in Camden on May 21, 1983.
Prior to his retirement with 40 years of service, Jon was employed with the Rome Cable Corporation. He served with the United States Navy for three years, following his graduation from high school. Jon was a member of the former Loyal Order of the Moose, Oneida Lodge No. 421, where he served as governor, transferring from the Rome lodge which he joined in 1977; and later attained the Degree of Fellow from the Legion of the Moose, North Moose. He was a member of the American Legion, Albany Post No. 001 and was an avid golfer at the former Brandybrook Golf Club, now known as Foster Ponds.
Surviving besides his wife, Kathleen, are his daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Brian Wallace of Oswego; his grandson, Quinten Denkenberger; his brother and sister-in-law, Douglas M. and Judy Campbell of Nashua, N.H.; a special aunt, Marge Comins of Oneida; his wife's family, Raymond and Rise Messmer of Camden and Jean and Anthony Madonia of Glendale, Ariz.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Christie Feeney.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., with the Rev. Brian Fellows, officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will be made in Glenwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, 4-7 p.m., Friday.
