Kane Buss Obituary
Born in Oneida on Feb. 7, 1995, he was a son of Christopher "Mike" and Claudette Hitchings Buss. A lifelong resident of the area, Kane was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 2013, where he was captain on the OHS football team, was a member of the basketball and baseball teams, and a member of the Class B Division All-Star football team.
Kane was a full-time student at Herkimer Community College, majoring in criminal justice and was on the Dean's List. He participated in intramural basketball and weight lifting at the college. He was employed part-time at Herb Phillipson's Store in Oneida. Kane was a passionate and dedicated leader, a true friend, an amazing son and brother, and an avid sneaker collector.
Surviving besides his parents, are his brother, Dalton W. Buss of Oneida; his girlfriend, Amanda Pawlikowski of Vernon; his paternal grandmother, Susan J. Buss of Oneida; his paternal grandparents, Mary and Richard Phillips of Canastota; maternal grandparents, Claude and Janet Hitchings of Higginsville; three aunts, Jane Whipple and her companion, Jim Jones of Canastota, Connie and Marty Pikarski of LaFayette, and Cheryl and Jeff Hull of Verona; three uncles, Mark Buss and his companion Julie Kirk of Oneida, Wayne Buss of Vernon, and Chad Hitchings of Higginsville; his beloved cat, Rosie; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday from St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Sayles Street, with the Rev. Brian Fellows, pastor and David Woodcock, co-officiating. Friends may call at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida, 3-7 p.m., Friday. Contributions, in his memory, may be made to the Kane Buss Football Scholarship Fund, c/o Oneida High School Boosters Club, 560 Seneca St., Oneida, N.Y. 13421. I did not know Kane well except for seeing him pass in the halls at Oneida High School and now I see his brother, Dalton. This is devastating tragedy for so many! What an admirable person he was and in the end, nothing less. So many were blessed to know him and be a part of his life. May his beautiful spirit shine down on all who loved him and may they find peace in time and in all the wonderful memories he created while here on Earth. There are never words for something like this but when it impacts you even remotely it is that much worse. Amanda Pawlikowski is my best friends sister. I am truly sorry for your loss. I did not know Kane or his family but have folllowed this tragic story. I too lost my brother and father in a accident 7 years ago.
