Malcolm A. "Mac" Rounds Obituary
Malcolm A. "Mac" Rounds, 89, of Queensbury and formerly of Verona, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2012, at Glens Falls Hospital.
Mac was born on March 3, 1923, in Rome, a son of the late Frank A. and Marion (Kinney) Rounds. He attended Verona High School in Verona, where he met his wife, Beverly. He also went to Rome Trade School. Mac was a steel fabricator/welder at Rome Iron Mills in Rome, until retiring in 1985, after 39 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, where he served in the Pacific Theater of Operations, in the Philippines, as part of the Glider Group.
Mac enjoyed hunting with his brothers, and fishing and camping near Oneida Lake with his sister during the summer. He loved woodworking and was very talented, making dry sinks, hutches and toys. Mac also loved spending time outdoors in the sun. For several years, he lived in Florida during the winter and spent time at a campground near Oneida Lake, in the summer.
Mac was a volunteer fireman and a lifetime member of the Verona Volunteer Fire Department in Verona, and attended the Verona Presbyterian Church.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Marion (Kinney) Rounds; his daughter, Nancy R. Ambrose; his sister, Shirley Herzog; his brothers, Donald Rounds and Stuart Rounds, and his in-laws, George and Nina Agan.
Survivors include his wife of 66 wonderful years, Beverly (Agan) Rounds; his daughter, Barbara Healy and her husband, Bernard; his grandson, James E. Healy; his granddaughter, Kari Paro and her husband, Jon and their children, Evan and Addyson; his grandson, Erik L. Ambrose and his wife, Anne and her children, Shianne and David; his brother-in-law, Robert Agan; his son-in-law, Dr. J. Lee Ambrose and his wife, Elizabeth and their children, Freeman and Jane, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are welcome to call on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Strong and Burns Funeral Home, 401 N. George St., Rome. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., following the calling hours, on June 13, 2012 at the Strong and Burns Funeral Home in Rome. Burial with full military honors will follow at New Union Cemetery in the Town of Verona. Mac's family suggests memorial donations to the Verona Presbyterian Church, Rock Road and Main Street, Verona, NY 13478 or the Verona Volunteer Fire Department, 5555 Volunteer Ave., Verona, NY 13478. Local arrangements are entrusted to the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.
