ONEIDA >> Michael M. McCormick, age 79, of E. Grove Street passed away unexpectedly Monday morning Jan. 20, 2014 at his home.
He was born on Feb. 26, 1934 in Staten Island, N.Y., son of the late Dr. Leslie T. and Mary L. (Robins) McCormick and was a graduate of Syracuse University where he received his master's degree in engineering.
Mike proudly served his country with the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957.
On Oct. 29, 1960 Mike and Julia A. (Julie) Williams were united in marriage in St. Catherine's Church of Vernon and the couple has shared a loving union of over 54 years together.
Mike retired from a career as an engineer having served several companies with his longest employment being with General Electric of Syracuse. When he wasn't working Mike enjoyed playing basketball and sailing on Oneida Lake, Hinckley Lake and in Old Forge. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church of Oneida and the Oneida YMCA. He also enjoyed teaching and tutoring at Onondaga Community College and Holy Cross Academy, Oneida.
Surviving is his wife Julie of Oneida; one son, Paul McCormick of Oneida; two daughters, Kathleen McCormick-Denny of Texas and Jill McCormick of Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Matthew McCormick of Oneida, Ann Irby of Texas, Sam and Danna McCormick of Ogdensburg; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie Mahl of Taberg and Rosemary Foy of Marcy, two brothers-in-law, Jerry (Jill) Williams of Verona and Larry (Peggy) Williams of Hinckley and one sister-in-law, Paula Humic and family of Cicero and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 3-5 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front St., Vernon. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Main Street, Oneida with Rev. Richard Kapral officiating. Spring burial with military honors will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Oneida.
