VERNON >> Robert F. Conover, age 85, of Cooper Street passed away peacefully early Monday morning Feb. 17, 2014 in the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility.
He was born on Sept. 13, 1928 in Floyd, N.Y. a son of the late Frank E. and Emma (Boss) Conover and attended Vernon High School.
Bob proudly served with the United States Air Force. And during the 1950s and 1960s he served as captain of the Air Raid Shelter in Vernon.
He had many different jobs during his working career that started at the Bellinger Farm, then at Revere Copper and Brass, a herdsman at the Dewan Dairy and was a self employed hoof trimmer and worked for some time with Ferris Industries.
Bob enjoyed gardening, deer hunting, tractors, cows, horses, and was a member of the FFA. His best times were spent going out to eat with his niece Darlene at the Nothing Fancy Café in Vernon.
Surviving are one sister, Mildred E. Miller, two brothers, Marshall Conover and Tom (Isabelle) Campbell, and many nieces and nephews.
Spring burial with graveside services and military honors will be held in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vernon, N.Y. Arrangements are with Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front St., Vernon, N.Y.
