Deborah Ann Malone Obituary
ONEIDA >> Deborah Ann Malone, 50, died peacefully Thursday, April 3, 2014 after a long battle with complications relating to cerebral palsy. She died at home surrounded by family and caregivers.
Debbie was born Nov. 7, 1963 at Oneida City Hospital, the daughter of Robert and Kay Fiore Malone. A lifelong resident of the Oneida area, Debbie was the first person to receive an honorary diploma from Oneida High School in 1985 and was also inducted as an honorary member into the KE Society.
She spent her life confined to a wheelchair, unable to walk or speak, but she was able to communicate quite well with her infectious smile and stern temper.
Those who came in contact with her, either professionally or socially, were impacted by her presence, spirit, and strong will to survive. Debbie had an innate ability to forge friendships without being able to use words and that speaks volumes for her and the people that remained close friends with her until her death.
Debbie is survived by her parents, Robert and Kay Malone of Oneida; her younger brother, Bobby, his wife Jaime, and their three sons, Patrick, Reilly and Colin of Morristown, N.J.; she also leaves behind a very loving extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins too numerous to mention. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Hugh and Claudine Malone and her maternal grandparents, Anthony and Mollie Sgarlata Fiore.
Debbie's family would like to thank everyone who loved, cared for and helped support her throughout her life, especially the dedicated people from Walnut Street, Pexton Street, and the day program in Oneida; her long list of sitters who turned into lifelong friends, also too lengthy to mention by name; the nurses on the fourth floor of Oneida City Hospital; Dr. Kelly, Dr. Pavelock, and the wonderful physicians at the Tri-Valley practice, Dr. Mulholland and Dr. Capone.
Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida and 10 a.m. from St. Joseph's Church, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Revs. Richard Kapral and Michael Carmola. Interment will be made in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, 3-7 p.m. Tuesday. Contributions, in her memory, may be made to the Madison-Cortland ARC, 701 Lenox Avenue, Oneida, NY 13421, the Oneida Castle Fire Department, Sholtz Road, Oneida Castle, NY 13421 or St. Joseph's Church, 121 St. Joseph's Place, Oneida, NY 13421.
