VERONA BEACH >> Martha A. Roberts, 77, Lakeshore Road, South died Monday, April 21, 2014, at her home, following a brief illness.
Born in Canastota, on July 14, 1936, she was a daughter of Donald M. and Martha L. Calhoun Shuler, Sr. Martha was a resident of Verona Beach for over 45 years and was a graduate of Canastota High School. She married D. Stanley Roberts in Verona Beach, on July 9, 1970. Mr. Roberts died on April 2, 2012.
Prior to her retirement, Martha was employed with the New York State Parks and Recreation Commission at the Verona Beach State Park as the parks and recreation administrative assistant and previously with the former Madison County Cold Storage Company in Canastota. She was a communicant of St. Mary's of the Lake Church, where she assisted her late husband with parish's annual casino nights, a member of the Oneida Lake Ice Breakers Snowmobile Club and was active in Little League Baseball activities.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert M. and Mary Jane Roberts of Oneida and Richard and Kathy Brewer of Lexington, Ky.; three step-daughters and their husbands, Christine Peterson of Lawrenceville, N.J., Cynthia and Michael Brown of Baldwinsville and Donna and George Clark of Camden; one step-son and his wife, William and Tekla Martin of Cedar Grove, N.J.; five sisters and their husbands, Leona A. and Joseph Bonaventura of Cherry Hill, Calif., Rose Romagnoli, Donna and Rolland Gustin, Dorothy and Thomas Clarke and Melanie and Mark Dennis, all of Canastota; two brothers and their wives, James R. and Marion Shuler of Spring Lake, N.J. and Donald M. and Diane Shuler, Jr. of Canastota; 16 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Karen and David Devan and Judy and Dick Parker.
Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m., Saturday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida and 10:30 a.m. from St. Mary's of the Lake Church, Verona Beach, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Charles Currie, pastor. Interment will be made in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, 3-7 p.m., Friday. Contributions, in her memory, may be made to the Sylvan Beach Fire Department, 900 Main St., Sylvan Beach, N.Y. 13157.
