ONEIDA >> Joseph L. West, 71, Seminole Boulevard, Largo, Fla., passed away May 19, 2014, in the comfort of his home.
Born in Oneida on Oct. 24, 1942, he was the son of Joseph C. and Edna Congden West. He has shared his residence between Oneida and Largo since 2001. Joseph was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1961. Mr. West married Marcia J. Lane in Oneida on Sept. 25, 1965. She passed away on March 29, 1999.
Joseph served in the National Guard for six years. He was employed with Oneida Limited, Silversmiths until retirement. Mr. West was a member of several organizations including the former Sconondoa Fire Department, the former Community Associate Club, and the former Oneida Limited Retirement Club. He was also member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Mr. West is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Reay Walker of Oneida; three grandchildren, Kayla, Angela and Zachary Walker of Oneida; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jean Robinson of Morrisville, and Janet and Paul Catello of Oneida; a special niece, Janice Reed of Durhamville; his companion, Doris Ackerman of Canastota; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother, Robert C. West, and a half-brother, Joseph West.
Services will be held 10 a.m. on Friday, May 30, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Sayles Street, Oneida, with the Rev. Brian Fellows, officiating. Interment will be made in Valley View Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida.
