CANASTOTA >> Bruce L. Sweet, 73, of 306 E. North Canal St. died Friday afternoon June 27, 2014 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford where he had been admitted earlier the day.
Bruce was born on Dec. 5, 1940 in Watertown, the son of Edward B. and Ida A. Pensock Sweet. A lifelong resident of the area he attended Canastota Schools.
From 1958 to 1960 he faithfully served with the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged.
He married Gail D. Weismore on Aug. 7, 1965 in Chittenango. She passed away in 2010.
Bruce had been employed with Oneida Molded Plastics for 16 years as a sonic welder retiring in 2006.
He was a member of the Stockbridge Methodist Church. Bruce was a former member of the Oneida Moose Lodge No. 4201 and former governor and assistant Boy Scout Master for Troop No. 7 in Munnsville. He was also a former member of the Wampsville Fire Department.
Surviving are three daughters and two sons in law, Sherri and Roger Janczuk of Canastota, April and John Lewin of Clockville and Erin Wilson and her companion, Richard Winn of Oneida; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Patricia and Joseph Salerno of Oneida and Becky Sweet of Pittsboro, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a sister Toni Sweet; two brothers, Stanley and Anthony Sweet; and a nephew, Edward Salerno.
Memorial Services will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday July 1 from the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc. with the Rev. Gary Spraker officiating. Interment will be made in Clockville Cemetery. Friends are invited and may call 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home 342 Main St., Oneida. Memorial contributions may be made to Munnsville Boy Scout Troop No. 7 c/o Kelly Jacobs 6380 Middle Road Munnsville, NY 13409.
