Alma M. Carney


1921 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
ORISKANY FALLS >> Alma M. Carney, 93, of Oriskany Falls, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Crouse Community Center, Morrisville.
She was born in Utica on June 10, 1921 a daughter of the late Edward and Katherine Creedon Matthews and attended a one room school house in Solsville, before graduating in 1939 from Madison High School. On Sept. 27, 1940 in St. Joseph's Church, Oriskany Falls, she was united in marriage to Lee H. Carney. He predeceased her on Jan. 15, 2004. Alma worked for several area manufacturers and was also Fashion Wagon Representative. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church of Oriskany Falls and the Kelley-Phillips American Legion Post No. 569, Auxiliary, Oriskany Falls. She enjoyed camping and knitting. Alma was always doing for others and helpful to those in need. She was loving and devoted, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family.
Surviving are her children, Jackie and Bob Rangel of Calabash, N.C., Herb and Karen Carney of Oriskany Falls and Leo and Paula Carney of Munnsville; a sister-in-law, Lola Towsley of Madison; a brother-in-law, Robert Drumm of Ilion; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece Karol Sykes who was like a daughter to Alma and cared for her like she cared for her own mother. She was predeceased by a sister, Zita Matthews in 1996.
Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, (Kloster & Northrup Memorial Chapel) 210 E. Main St., Waterville and at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph's Church, Oriskany Falls.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Parish Cemetery.
Friends are invited and may call on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Linda Keever, RN, NP; and Crouse Community Center Staff, especially, Brandy, Ashley, Lindsey and Kayla for all their care and compassion shown to Alma.
