CANASTOTA >> Julia "Judy" (Lloyd) Sgarlata, 87, of 227 W. Hickory St., Canastota, died on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Oneida Healthcare following a brief illness.
She was born on April 11, 1927, in Dunmore, Pa., a daughter of Andrew and Julia Suliman Ehnot.
Judy spent her early years in Pennsylvania, attending school there. She has lived in Canastota since 1946.
She worked at Diemolding Corp. in Canastota for 35 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1990.
Judy is a member, 2nd vice president and past historian of the American Legion Charles Miller Post No. 140 in Canastota, an active member of AARP, and is a former member of Casolwood Golf Course in Canastota.
She was a member of St. Agatha's Church in Canastota.
Judy enjoyed playing golf, reading, playing cards, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
She first married Melvin L. Lloyd on Jan. 15, 1945 in Dunmore, Pa. Melvin died on June 8, 1989. Judy later married Charles T. Sgarlata, Sr., on Jan. 25, 1992, in Canastota.
Surviving besides her husband, Charles, are: one son and daughter-in-law, John and Tari Lloyd of Wampsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Christine Pickard and Gale "Pete" Peterson of Bloomingdale, Ill.; step-children, Joanne Manaseri and Woodrow "Woody" Miller of Hawaii, Charles, Jr. "Skip" and Monica Sgarlata of Lebanon, Michelle and Jeffrey Church of Canastota, Joseph "Mike" Sgarlata of Canastota, and Chris and Nhan Sgarlata of Canastota; one sister and two brothers-in-law, Madlyn and Donald "Biff" Cerio of Canastota, and William Fritch of Dunmore, Pa.; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Judy was predeceased by a brother, John Ehnot; and two sisters, Anna Solensky and Helen Fritch.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014, at St. Agatha's Church, Canastota, where a funeral mass will be held. The Rev. Stephen P. Wirkes, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Lenox Rural Cemetery, Canastota. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James St., Canastota. In her memory, contributions may be made to GLAS (Greater Lenox Ambulance Service), P.O. Box 382, Canastota, N.Y. 13032, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
