PETERBORO - Barbara J. (Ogden) Kilts, 65, of Old County Road, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton.
She was born Sept. 16, 1945 in Utica, the daughter of J. Alfred and Erzilla Meehan Ogden. She was a graduate of Hamilton High School and Naperville College in Ill., and attended SUNY-Morrisville. On July 26, 1997, Barbara married Murray O. Kilts in Peterboro. She had previously been married to Carl W. Hoyt. Barbara was a legal secretary for several area law firms, most recently for the Kiley Law Firm in Oneida until her retirement.
Barbara was a member of the Peterboro United Methodist Church. She was a dedicated member of her community who was the secretary for the Fire Commissioners of the Smithfield Fire Department for 14 years, and was also a member of the Town of Smithfield Assessment Review Board. Barbara was a member of the Willow Glen Rebekah Lodge No. 158 and was the State Secretary for the Rebekah Assembly, I.O.O.F. Jurisdiction of New York from 2007 to the present.
Surviving are her husband, Murray; a son, Carl Hoyt of Bridgeport; step-children, Michael Kilts of Port Jervis; Timothy Kilts and Brian Kilts, J. Christopher and Wendy Kilts, all of Clockville; a sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Warren Burns of St. Louis; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Eugene and Donna Ogden of Plymouth; Frank Ogden of Hamilton and Charles Ogden of Winder, Ga.; one grandchild; eleven step-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Elmer Hoyt.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2011 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 31 Cedar St., Morrisville. Interment will be in the Peterboro Cemetery in the spring. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. There will be a Rebekah service at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.
