CLOCKVILLE >> Alene R. Haynes, 93, of 7247 Oxbow Road (Box 69), Clockville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at her home, following a brief illness.
She was born on Nov. 26, 1919, in Canastota, the daughter of Eugene and Mary Allen Haynes.
Alene spent her early years in Canastota, and Oneida, attending school in Canastota and graduating from Oneida High School in 1939. She later lived in Vernon, and has lived in Clockville for more than 40 years.
She worked at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome for several years, Prince George Hospital in Maryland, SUNY Morrisville, and was the Postmaster of the Clockville Post Office for 12 years, retiring in 1985.
Alene enjoyed word find puzzles, crocheting, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
She was a member of the South Bay Chapel, Canastota-Lenox Senior Citizens Club, the National and Local AARP, and had been a member of the former Loyal Order of Moose in Oneida.
Alene was married to Roger C. Bates from 1939-1966. Roger died on Aug. 21, 2010.
Surviving are: a son and daughter-in-law, Charles A. Sr. and Betsy Bates of Vernon; a daughter Viola (Vi) Ducatte of Clockville; grandchildren, Timothy C. Bates, Charles A. Bates Jr., Jennifer and Scott Bellinger, and Tammy Bates; nine great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Alene was predeceased by a son-in-law, Mitchell Ducatte; and five brothers, Charles Haynes, David Haynes, Frederick Haynes, Richard Haynes, and Gerald Haynes.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., Canastota. The Rev. William M. Wilcox, pastor of the Fyler Community Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Canastota. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 201 James St., Canastota. In her memory, contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413, or to South Bay Chapel, 8954 Morris Road, Canastota, NY 13032, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
