CANASTOTA >> David M. Snyder, Sr., 74, of 400 Lamb Ave., Canastota, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Jan. 13, 1939, in Perryville, the son of Maurice and Lenora Burgdoff Snyder.
David has lived in the Canastota area all of his life, attending the Canastota schools.
He worked for Queensboro Farm Products in Canastota for several years, later working for Morris Security in Syracuse.
David enjoyed watching television, posting on Facebook, listening to the scanner, and spending time with his family and friends.
He married Patricia A. Shingler on Jan. 10, 1959 in Canastota. Pat died on Nov. 1, 1987.
Surviving are: four sons and a three daughters-in-law, David, Jr. and Michele Snyder of Central Square, John and Lori Snyder of Canastota, Michael Snyder of Cortland, and Kevin and Terra Snyder of Vernon; five daughters and two sons-in-law, Debra Arruda of Little Falls, Christine and Herman Staats of Canastota, Traci Roache and her fiancé, Scott Sykes, of Canastota, Tina Snyder of Taberg, and Melissa and Brian Myrto of N. Syracuse; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Nancy Snyder of Oneida, and Darwin and Elaine Snyder of Arizona; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bob Shaw of California; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends at Stoneleigh Apartments. David was predeceased by a son, James "Benji" Snyder, who died in 1982.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., Canastota. Pastor Carl Bargabos of Abundant Life Christian Center, East Syracuse, will officiate. Burial will be in Clockville Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, 201 James St., Canastota. In his memory, contributions may be made to the Stoneleigh Apartments Tenants Association, Attn: Office, 400 Lamb Ave., Canastota, NY 13032, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
