CANASTOTA >> Richard J. "Ricky" Carswell, 59, of Canastota, died on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in NYC, following a brief illness.
He was born on Oct. 10, 1954, in Oneida, a son of Willie, Sr., and Wauline Cross Carswell.
Ricky lived in Canastota all of his life, and was a 1973 graduate of Canastota High School.
He has worked as a self-employed contractor in Canastota for many years. He had previously worked for Brunomatic Vending in Canastota.
Ricky enjoyed playing golf, working, and spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving are: a brother, Earl Carswell of Michigan; eight sisters and five brothers-in-law, Arlene and Herman Collins, and Josephine Miller, all of Los Angeles, Calif., Betty and Alonzo Lewis of Canastota, Mary Perry of Los Angeles, Calif., Geraldine and Frank Coleman, and Dorothy and Henry Eubanks, all of Rome, Darlene and James Corpin of Peterboro, and Martha Carswell of Chittenango; aunts and uncles; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ricky was predeceased by a brother, Willie Carswell, Jr.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., Canastota. The Rev. Tommy R. Jackson, of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Rome, will officiate. Burial will be Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Canastota. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, prior to the service, from 12-2 p.m., at the funeral home, 201 James St., Canastota.
