Carol M. Hartquist

1934 - 2014

VERONA >> Carol M. Hartquist, 79, of Stoneybrook Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 in Rome Memorial Hospital, where she had been a medical patient for the past eight days.
Born in Syracuse, on Oct. 17, 1934, she was a daughter of John and Mary Meagher Mesmer. A resident of this area since 2007, Carol graduated from St. Anthony of Padua High School, Class of 1952 and later attended the University of Rochester. She married John E. Duby, who died May 17, 1975 and later married Gary W. Hartquist, May 21, 1983, in Manlius.
Prior to her retirement Carol was employed for over 30 years as a financial aid administrator and accountant with the Contemporary Beauty School, and later with the Phillips Hair Style Institute. Carol was a communicant of St. Helena's Church, loved reading, traveling and politics, had a passion for cooking and collecting recipes. But beyond all of this, her greatest passion was her family and friends. Surviving are her husband, Gary W.; one daughter and one son-in-law, Nancy and Biff Wilber of Vernon; six sons and five daughters-in-law, Gary P. and Mary Hartquist of Cortland, John M. and Lauren Duby of Syracuse, Mitchell L. Hartquist of Dallas, Texas, Matthew D. and Bridget Duby of Pompey, Scott L. and Sandy Hartquist of Apex, N.C. and Mark J. and Jill Duby of Jamesville; 17 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; two cousins, Rev. William Mesmer and Paul Mesmer; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Kathleen Mesmer and Janet Mesmer Pichoske.
Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Friday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida, and 10:30 a.m. from St. Helena's church, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. William Mesmer, pastor and cousin. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Jamesville. Friends may call at the funeral home 3-7 p.m. Thursday.
