Danny Parten Obituary

Danny "D.C." Parten, 67, of Statham, passed away at his home on Thursday February 6, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
An Athens native, Danny graduated from Athens High School and continued his education at Athens Technical College, where he received his electrical degree. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1966 to serve his country for four years, during which time he received numerous recognitions. Afterward, he worked for BellSouth for 32 years prior to retiring.
Danny was actively involved in the Cumming Lions Club, was President of the Statham Booster Club, was a member of the Statham American Legion, and was a devoted Mason and a member of Statham Masonic Lodge. He had an extremely influential role as a coach of the Statham youth baseball and football teams. He was a firefighter/paramedic who reached the rank of assistant chief of Statham Fire Station and Chief of Holsenbeck Fire Station in Barrow County. He was also an accomplished SCUBA diver, serving as a member of a SCUBA search and rescue team. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved the outdoors. There was not much he could not do or had not done.
Danny was a very determined, loyal, devoted, successful, and extremely respected perfectionist. But even more than that, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Davis Parten, and is survived by his wife of 49 years, Charlotte Yarbrough Parten, and children, Tiffany Parten (Kyle) Beatty and Clay Parten, all of Statham; grandchildren, Abby, Justin, and Emma Beatty, and Christian Parten; father; R.C. Parten, of Winder; brother; Ricky Parten; and sisters, Peggy Parten, Janie Vaughn, and Teresa Trammell.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, at Smith Funeral Home.
At Danny's request, a graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, in Barrow Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Ned Davis officiating.
Smith Funeral Home, Winder, is in charge of the arrangements.
