Orme, Dr. Alan Dan - Athens  
he Reverend Dr. Alan Dan Orme died at home on Thursday, August 27, 2015. He was 82 years old and had been a citizen of Athens, Georgia, for 46 years. He was the minister of The University Church which he founded in 1970 on the campus of The University of Georgia. Dr. Orme had been a minister in the North Georgia Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America. He held five academic degrees, including two seminary degrees and the Ph.D. degree in history from UGA. He studied archaeology at the Near East School of Archaeology in Jerusalem. In his youth, Dr. Orme was a builder and was a soldier in the Korean War, where he also worked as a carpenter. Before coming to Athens he served for eight years as the Academic Dean of Carver Bible College, established in Atlanta to train men for the ministry. Rev. Dr. Orme was a native of Elmira, New York, and was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister. He is survived by nephews and nieces distributed across four countries and three continents. He had been a well-known figure around the Athens neighborhoods for years, both for his yellow Model A Roadster and for his ubiquitous presence as a cyclist and pedestrian. He wrote extensively in periodicals and journals and authored two books, Restoring Old Houses and God's Appointments with Men. He was known for his continuous work on his 1897 home on Church Street and for his interest in antiques and collectibles. His body will lie in state at his home at 397 South Church Street on Wednesday, September 2, from 4 until 8pm. In keeping with Dr. Orme's tradition of hospitality, the church will have a fellowship meal in conjunction with this visitation. The funeral will be held on the following day, Thursday, September 3, at 3pm at Redeemer Presbyterian Church with interment at Oconee Hill Cemetery. Scarborough, Earl B. - Toccoa  
Earl Scarborough was laid to rest Sunday, August 30, 2015. Born September 26, 1926, he passed away August 28, 2015. He was the son of Earl and Mary Noell Scarborough. Earl was a member of Crawford Baptist Church for many years where he served as Deacon, song leader and was involved in many activates; Lexington Masonic Lodge #158, served on the Board of Directors of Commercial Bank of Crawford and began Scarborough's Inc. in 1966 where he operated and expanded it until his retirement. Family members include sons and wives Mike and Phyllis Scarborough, Washington, GA; Dean and Dee Scarborough, Toccoa, GA; grandsons and wives Adam and Laura Scarborough, Chris and Lauren Scarborough, 6 great-grandchildren, sister Rosalind Allen, and many nieces and nephews. Earl is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Louise Stapp Scarborough; grandson Lance Cpl. Michael Philip Scarborough; brother O.D. Scarborough, sisters Edna Matthews and Gussie Taylor. Private services were held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Crawford Baptist Church, 124 Church Street, Crawford, GA 30630. Sexton, James Edward "Ed" - Hartwell  
Mr. James "Ed' Edward Sexton, age 88 of 261 Fairview Ave. Hartwell, GA, went to be with his Lord on August 31, 2015. Born August 18, 1927 in Danielsville, GA, he was the son of the late CL Sexton and Lillie Miller Sexton. He was retired having worked in the Heating and Air industry and with the Dillard Co. in Athens, GA. He was a US Army veteran and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church of Hartwell. He is survived by his son: James Hardy Sexton and his wife Randy of Hartwell; daughter: Robin S. Veal and her husband Ric of Athens; brother: Kenneth Sexton of Ila; four grandchildren: Jennifer Marek, Jamie Sexton, Jeremy Sexton, Ryan Veal and Amy Veal; and five great grandchildren: Peyton, Paxton, Colton, Emily Kate and Ava Grace. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Jewell Hardy Sexton, who passed in 2009; sisters: Dorothy Fowler, Louise Carey, Eleanor Sexton and Doyle Sexton. Services celebrating the life of James "Ed" Edward Sexton will be held on September 2, 2015 at three O'clock pm in the chapel of the Coile-Hall-Spagnoli Funeral Home with the Rev. James Sexton officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3pm prior to the service. The family will be at 833 N. Forest Ave., Hartwell, GA 30643.
