Alvin Hugh Gray Jr., 69, of Statham, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2014.
Mr. Gray retired from the U.S. Navy
after 23 years of service, and also retired from Athens-Clarke County after 33 years serving as a fire fighter
and a communications officer. He was a member of the Statham American Legion.
Mr. Gray was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Hugh Sr. and Eunice Mae Aaron Gray, and a grandson.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Gray, of Statham; sons, Kelly and Scott Gray, of Belfair, Wash., and Brandon (Melissa) Hicks, of Commerce; daughters; Tammy (Gregg) Frost, of Belfair, Wash., Sharon (Mike) Goodwin, of Port Orchard, Wash., Cheryl (Trace) Ahart, of Canton, Sandra (Frank) Brooks, of Bishop, and Eileen (David) Martin and Amy Sims, of Winder; brothers, John W. (Beverly) Gray, of Athens, and Charlie L. (Jerre) Gray, of Statham; and sister, Mary (Gary) Gregory, of Arnoldsville. Nineteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, at the chapel of Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Howard Conine officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
