Mitzi Campbell

Ms. Mitzi Whitmire Campbell, age 63, of Athens, passed away on November 2, 2013.
Ms. Campbell was an active member of Athens First Presbyterian Church. She studied microbiology at the University of Georgia. During the mid-'80s and early '90s, Ms. Campbell established and operated The Serpentine Inn, Athens' first bed and breakfast. She was well-known in the area as one of the few people who still practiced and taught the lost art of chair caning and seat weaving.
Ms. Campbell was preceded in death by her parents, W.A. Whitmire Jr. and Edith Whitmire.
She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Anna "Whitney" and Patrick Hand; son and his wife, Colin and Jessica Campbell; step-sons and their wives, Jacob and Sarah Ross and Nathan and Greta Ross; and grandchildren, Elliot Hand, Apollo Ross, and Adelina Ross. She is also survived by her ex-husband, Alan Campbell.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, November 8, at Athens First Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Glenn Doak officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
