Raymond Marden Sr.

Raymond Allen Marden Sr., age 93, of Athens, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2013.
A native of Bangor, Maine, Mr. Marden was the son of the late Charles and Helen Braun Marden, and was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Marden. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and fought in the Normandy Invasion, the Battle of Hurtgen Forest, and the Battle of the Bulge. He then served as a Commander in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Marden received his master's degree in dairy science from the University of Georgia, and his master's in environmental health from the University of North Carolina. He retired as a sanitarian with the U.S. Department of Public Health, and was a member of the Prince Ave. Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Aldine Marden, of Athens; son, Raymond Allen Marden Jr., and his wife, Jo, of Winder; and grandchildren, Matt Marden, and his wife, Jennifer, of Fayetteville, and Luke Marden, and his wife, Lacie, of Winder, and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, at Bernstein Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, at the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Ricketts officiating. Interment will follow in the Attica Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Matt Marden, Luke Marden, Nolan Gottlieb, Tyler Gottlieb, Phil Logan, and Rob McCormick.
