Beverly Beeland Carlton, age 82, of St. Simons Island, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at the Hospice of the Golden Isles.
Mrs. Carlton was born in Athens on February 10, 1931, to the late Ruth Leverette Beeland and George Thomas Beeland. Beverly graduated in 1952 from the University of Georgia, where she was a member of the Tri-Delta sorority. She moved to Augusta in 1966, where she lived until she relocated to St. Simons Island in 2011.
While living in Augusta, Beverly enjoyed watching golf and entertaining the golfers and guests that visited Augusta. She was also a member of Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church, where she was active with the Prime-Time group. She enjoyed watching the Braves play, took much pleasure in swimming, and absolutely adored visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carlton was preceded in death by her husband, William Morton Carlton Jr., and son, Thomas Morton Carlton.
Survivors include her sons, retired U.S. Army Colonel Dr. William Beeland Carlton, and his wife, Laura, of St. Simons Island, and David Parks Carlton, and his wife, Jane Anne, of Huntsville, Ala; grandchildren, Mrs. Leigh (Eric) Gust, of Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., Mrs. Lindsay (Dave) Robbins, of Sachse, Texas, Mrs. Claire (Patrick) Gibson, of Nashville, Tenn., William Carlton, of St. Simons Island, J.T. and Claudia Carlton, of Monroe, Bryan Carlton, of Acworth, and Andrew Carlton, of Huntsville, Ala.; and four great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to gather at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, at the Sexton's House, Oconee Hill Cemetery, Athens. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m., with inurnment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions in Beverly's honor be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Pkwy., Brunswick, GA 31525; or to Care Net Pregnancy Center of Coastal Georgia, 3548 Community Rd., Brunswick, GA 31525.
Mrs. Carlton's arrangements have been placed into the care of Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home and Oglethorpe Crematorium.
