Clara Louise Bishop, 92, of Athens, passed peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, May 4, 2014.
She was born in Carroll, Iowa, on September 8, 1921. The daughter of the late Dr. Roy Everett Parry and Hazel Rae Farr Parry, of Scranton, Iowa, she attended Cornell College, in Mt. Vernon, Ill., and graduated in the Public School of Music with a business education minor and post-graduate work in choral conducting at Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill.
Mrs. Bishop was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and a choir conductor in Faribault, Minn., Livonia, Mich., and Falls Church, Va. She was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, singing in the choir and active in Bible study. She was postmistress with the contract station in Charmar Florist for several years. She was also a loyal sports fan of the Braves and UGA.
Mrs. Bishop was preceded in death by her daughter, Sally Hall, leaving her three children: Nancy McGinty, of Verbena, Ala., Linda Bowden, of Burlington, Vt., and Randal Bishop, of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven grandchildren: Eric McGinty, Abby Hall, Ryan Hall, Jared Bowden, Seth Bowden, Rachel Bishop, and Brooke Bishop; and two great-grandchildren: Noah McGinty and Lanah Kudich.
The musical memorial service for Clara Lou will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, at Covenant Presbyterian, 1065 Gaines School Road, Athens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church.
