Mrs. Donita Fay Hawkins, 82, entered into rest on June 13, 2014, at Thomson Health & Rehabilitation. A private memorial service will be held in July at her home at Clarks Hill.
Donita was a native of Kansas and was a daughter of the late Marvin and Ruby Gentzler. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Southwestern College, in Winfield, Kan., and received her master's degree from the University of Georgia. She was a teacher, homemaker, and office manager, and worked at Feimster-Peterson and Athens History Village.
Donita was married to Michael "Mick" L. Hawkins for 50 years. Together, they raised their family in Athens, where Mick taught at the University of Georgia. After retirement, Donita and Mick spent many happy years at their lake house on Clarks Hill.
Donita loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a fan of all UGA sports and was a founding member of the Ten-0 Club, the booster club of the UGA Gymnastics Team.
Survivors include her sons, Mick (Susan) Hawkins, of Colbert, and Ted (Daisy) Hawkins, of Athens; daughter, Kit (Bill) Doupe, of Thomson; sister, Sheri Gentzler, of Leavenworth, Kan.; brother-in-law, Paul (Judy) Hawkins, of Henderson, Nev.; and grandchildren, Daniel (Geri) Hawkins, of Lexington, Hank and Mick Doupe, both of Thomson, and Cameron Thrasher, of Athens.
D.T. Brown Memorial Mortuary, Thomson, is in charge of the arrangements.
