Jack Davis Lundy, age 71, of Athens, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2013.
A native of Greene County, Mr. Lundy was the son of the late Virgil Davis Lundy and Bertha Mae Wood Lundy, and was preceded in death by two sisters: Lula Catherine Lundy and Jeannie Faye Lundy. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a retired commercial building contractor. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and Forest Heights Baptist Church.
Mr. Lundy was remembered as a great youth coach, for 12 years in CYA Colts (the local feeder program for football) and for 15 years with the Westinghouse Little League baseball team. He enjoyed teaching the kids and watching them grow. He even had a song, "Big Jack," written about him by Harold Williams of The Jesters and referring to Harold's brief experience working with Jack as his boss in the construction industry.
Mr. Lundy's survivors include his wife, Suzette Batson Lundy, of Athens; sons, Stacey Davis Lundy (and wife, Carla), of Cumming, and Mark Brian Lundy (and wife, Heather), of Watkinsville; daughter, Manda Renee Wilson (and husband, Kevin), of Alpharetta; brothers, David Leon Lundy, Richard Lee Lundy, and Virgil Kerry Lundy; grandchildren, Mitchell Davis Lundy, Alexander John Wilson, Katherine Grace Wilson, and Madden Lea Lundy; and one uncle and two aunts: Grover Eugene Wood, of Pensacola, Fla., Eunice Welsh, of Greensboro, and Velma Webb-Bauman, of Winterhaven, Fla.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, September 13, at Bernstein Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sonny Sessions officiating. Interment will follow at Oconee Hill Cemetery; the pallbearers will be Shanan Batson, Zachary Batson, Shea Minton, Wes Minton, Chase Daniel, William Lundy, and Robert Worthen.
