Jake W. Sosebee, Sr, 91, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2013.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Sosebee was the son of the late Jake Soloman and Cora Elizabeth Teague Sosebee. He was also preceded in death by the wife of his children, Annie Pearl Sumerlin Sosebee.
Mr. Sosebee was a veteran of the US Army and received a purple heart for wounds he received during the Normandy Invasion during WWII. For many years he was manager and appliance technician for Athens Refrigeration and was a member of Forest Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Sara Sosebee of Athens, son Jake Sosebee, Jr and wife Beth of High Shoals, daughters Marilyn Wilkes and husband Ted of Watkinsville and Lavida Waters and husband Charlie of Batesville; sister Peggy Shields of Clearwater, Fla., 5 grandchildren,5 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Funeral services will be 2pm Tuesday, April7, 2013 at the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Lang and Rev. Paige Bennett (Granddaughter of Jake Sosebee, Sr) officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park with military honors.
The family will receive friends at Bernstein from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2013.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 2340 Prince Ave, Suite B, Athens, Georgia 30606.
