Jude Joseph Lyons, age 60, of Greensboro, died on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospice House, in Bogart.
The Guest Book is expired.
Jude was born in Dunkirk, N.Y., on June 26, 1952, to Madeline Kozlowski Lyons, of Warren, Pa., and the late Daniel Walter Lyons. He was a 1970 graduate of Warren Area High School, in Warren, Pa., attended Canisius College, and married Elizabeth Anne Channing on June 8, 1974. They lived in Warren, where he was a member of the Elks Club, a volunteer fireman in Sugar Grove, Pa., and an EMT.
Jude was a member of the Catholic Center of the University of Georgia. During his working career, he worked for six years at Inter Electric Corporation, and later was the owner and operator of Lyons Builders. After moving to Greene County in the summer of 1990, he was the construction supervisor for Reynolds Plantation.
Jude had many hobbies and interests, but really enjoyed working on Mopar, Chrysler, and Dodge. He also enjoyed reading, theology, and religion; and especially loved his grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, Jude is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Anne "Beth" Channing Lyons, of Greensboro; daughter, Jennifer Hadden, her husband, John, and their children, Jack and Madeline, of Watkinsville; daughter, Gretchen Pearson, her husband, Anthony II, and their son, William, of Athens; niece, Gwendolyn Albaugh Lanstrum, of Chardon, Ohio; a number of other relatives; and many friends. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Anne Mary Lyons Albaugh.
Jude's battle with cancer was long, but he fought it bravely. His determination and will to win the battle was an enormous strength for all who knew and loved him. He did not allow cancer to stand in the way of his reaching out to those around him; he never met a stranger, and continued giving of himself and providing help to those who needed him.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, at the Catholic Center of the University of Georgia, 1344 Lumpkin Street, Athens, with Father David Hyman officiating.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Horace Park, Kevin Nichols, Neil Johnston, Lee McDonald, Brian Channing, and Scott Pope. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Durham, Dr. Bobby Durham, Carey Williams, Guy Kay, Dr. Jeffrey Zweig, John Borger, and Mark Higdon.
