Leard "Hugh" Christian, age 69, of Athens, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2012.
Hugh was born to L.H. and Sara Christian on March 10, 1943, in Athens. After graduation from the University of Georgia, he achieved the rank of Captain in the U.S. Air Force, and was instrumental in establishing the U.S. Armed Forces Broadcasting Networks throughout Europe.
Following his military service, Hugh was general manager of WRFC, in Athens, WPUP, in Royston, WFOX, in Gainesville, and WDDK, in Greensboro. He was also Executive Producer of the Georgia Football and Basketball Radio Networks for 14 years, as well as general manager of Gus Garcias and Angelo's Restaurants, in downtown Athens.
Hugh was a well-loved fixture in the downtown Athens community.
He is survived by his father, L.H. Christian Sr.; siblings, Carolyn Bottoms, Frank Christian, and Charles Christian; daughters, Christelle Christian, Cherylle Bradford, and Cheri Christian; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The memorial will be 6-9 p.m. Sunday, November 18, at NONA, 279 E. Broad Street, Athens.
