Mary Patterson Saunders, age 88, of Athens, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013.
A native of Pavo, Mrs. Saunders was the daughter of the late James E. Patterson Jr. and Eula Ireland Patterson, and was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Bradley Saunders.
Mrs. Saunders was an elementary school teacher at both Bogart Elementary and Alps Elementary Schools. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, an avid bridge player, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Athens, where she had served as past president of the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her sons, Jeffrey Scott Saunders, of Athens, David Bradley Saunders (and wife, Connie), of Lilburn, and Michael Wimberly Saunders (and wife, Lynn), of Winterville; daughter, Susan McGaughey (and husband, Vance), of Roswell; and grandchildren, Erik Saunders (and wife, Susan), Ian Saunders, Sarah McGaughey, Brad McGaughey, and Laura McGaughey.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at Bernstein Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 12, at the First United Methodist Church of Athens, with the Rev. Chuck Hodges officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
