Nancy Hammett James, 70, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2013 in Statesville, NC.

She was born on December 28, 1942, in LaGrange, GA, and was the daughter of the late Herbert and Louise Hammett. She and her late husband, Ben James, resided in Washington, GA for more than 30 years. Nancy held a Specialist Degree in Education from the University of Georgia and was a beloved school teacher in Elberton, GA for many years. Nancy was an avid piano and organ player who played organ for the Washington Presbyterian Church and Ficklen Presbyterian Church. She also delighted in performing for productions of the Washington Little Theater including On Golden Pond and Black Coffee.
Nancy is survived by her son, Robbie James of Augusta; son, Herb James, of Athens, GA; daughter-in-law Emily James; and two grandchildren, Charlie & Georgia James; brother and wife, Herbert and Julia Hammett; and sister and husband, Margaret and Bill Hanson all of LaGrange, GA.
A memorial service will be held at Washington Presbyterian Church on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at 2:00 pm for family and friends.
