Pinky passed away early on the morning of November 22, 2013. She was born on March 3, 1917 in Athens, Georgia, the youngest of John B. and Nellie Mae Almand Fowler's five children.
After high school Pinky worked at S.H. Kress & Co. and then with Georgia Power. In the midst of WWII, she met John Augustus "Jack" O'Shea, Jr. of Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, New York, while he was attending the Naval Flight School at the University of Georgia. Pinky and Jack were married on January 5, 1946.
While raising a family as a Navy wife, Pinky traveled the country and the world; from Georgia to New York, from Florida to Rhode Island, from Cuba to Kansas, Hawaii to Japan, from Texas to Japan and back, then from Georgia to Southern Maryland and our nation's capital. After Jack's retirement they continued to travel the world, sailing its' seas from the Chesapeake Bay to the Caribbean.
Pinky was preceded in death by her husband Dr. John A. O'Shea, Jr. Cdr. USN, Ret., daughter Patricia Slacum, her brothers Harry and J.B. Fowler and sisters Mary Elizabeth "Betty " Hearn, Alice Nell Foster and Marguerite Burke. After the passing of her daughter Patricia, Pinky joined daughter Teri, sons Tom and Dan, and their families in Greensboro, North Carolina where she spent the remaining years of her life.
Pinky is survived by her daughter Teresa Orsini of Charlotte, and sons Michael J. O'Shea of Arlington, TX, Tom and wife Louise, Dan and wife Andrea both of Greensboro, Seamus and wife Leigh Anne of Acworth, GA and son-in-law Harold Ward Slacum, Sr. Col. USMC Ret. and wife Mary of East New Market, MD.
She is the proud grandmother of Kristine Slacum Nossick, H. Ward Slacum, Jr. and wife Julie, John-Michael Brendan O'Shea, Meaghan O'Shea Clayton and husband Justin, Erin Orsini Balthasar and husband Frank, Ryan Andrew O'Shea and wife Shannon, Sean Patrick O'Shea, Kevin Thomas O'Shea, Caitlin Rebecca and Tara Marie O'Shea. Pinky has six great grandchildren; Kristian Slacum, Madelyn and Michael Nossick, Keegan Jeffery and Caeden Thomas Clayton and Sofia Marie Balthasar and great-great grandson Hayden O'Shea Jones.
