Richard Earl Wooley, 78, of Athens, passed away on November 18, 2013, after a short illness.
Richard was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on November 18, 1935, to the late Norton and Dorothy Wooley. He graduated from Kenmore High School, then continued on to receive a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell University in 1960 and a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia in 1969. He taught medical microbiology at the University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine for 40 years, and during his tenure also performed research that benefited both animals and humans.
Richard married his wife of 51 years, Sandra Lee Wooley, on February 27, 1962.
He is survived by his sons, Michael N. Wooley (and wife, Lisa, and children, Christopher and Rachael) and Matthew T. Wooley (and wife, Sarah Weber); and his sister, Patricia Wilson.
