Ruth Paulus McCrary, age 92, of North High Shoals and formerly of Athens, died on Friday, May 24, 2013.

The daughter of the late Frank and Helen van Haack Paulus, of New York City, Mrs. McCrary was a graduate of the Gray Court School for Girls, in Stamford, Conn. She traveled around the country and the world for more than 20 years as the wife of a U.S. Air Force officer, before moving to Athens in 1966.
Mrs. McCrary was a library specialist at the University of Georgia's Hargrett Library and was later employed at the Athens Area Council on Aging. A 1,000-hour volunteer with the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, Mrs. McCrary was also a volunteer at the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation and the Athens-Clarke Regional Library.
Mrs. McCrary was predeceased by her husbands, Wesley R. Bunker and Royce C. McCrary. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Tom Bowen, of Athens; daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Terry May, of Pendergrass; grandson and his wife, Jesse and Ginny Bowen, of Baltimore, Md.; grandson and his wife, Toby and Mary Glenn Bowen, of Suwanee; and great-grandson, Jack Bowen, of Baltimore, Md.
Contributions in Mrs. McCrary's memory may be made to the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, in Athens.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
