Shirley Cagle Williams Burke overcame her battle with cancer and was called home to glory by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, November 18, 2012.
The Guest Book is expired.
Shirley was born in Hall County on November 21, 1935, to Ralph and Ruth Cagle. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, and was baptized as a testament. She graduated from Chamblee High School in 1953.
Shirley retired from the University of Georgia Accounts Payable Department and remained an UGA fan throughout her life. She was an active member of Briarwood Baptist Church, in Watkinsville, and enjoyed serving as a greeter on Sunday mornings. She set a great example to everyone she met on how to live life with grace and faith through Jesus Christ, and also how to die with faith and grace through Jesus Christ.
Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Ralph H. Cagle, and husbands, Charles P. Williams and Thomas H. Burke.
She is survived by her mother, Mellie Ruth Cagle; daughter, Cindy (Gene) Nixon; son, Randy (Jan) Williams; step-daughter, Lisa (Todd) Burke; sisters, Gwen (Vernon) Jackson, Pam (Jerry) Graham, Brenda (Ted) Segars, and Wanda Allen; grandchildren, Ashley (Trent) Morgan and Charlie (Bradi) Nixon; great-grandchildren, Kade and Cooper Morgan and Colton and Cayson Nixon; numerous beloved nieces and nephews, and her little furry friend, Scootch.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, at Briarwood Baptist Church, with Dr. Rick Standard officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church for two hours prior to the service.
