William Charles "Bill" Berryman, Sr., age 87, of Greensboro, Ga. passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012 at his residence. A native of Athens, GA, he was born October 27, 1925 and was the son of the late C. C. Berryman and Sara Annice Martin Berryman. He graduated from Athens High School in 1943 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of the European Theater, and fought in four major battles, including the Battle of the Bulge, as a tank gunner in the 32nd Cavalry. He was employed with Champion International for 35 years, 18 of those as plant manager of the Athens plant. He also operated the W.C. Berryman Company from 1967 to 2007. In 1987, Mr. Berryman retired to live at Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Georgia, where he enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Survivors include his daughters, Becky Berryman Stevens (Dan) of Maxeys, GA and Cathy Berryman Schaum (Norborne) of Atlanta, GA; son, William Berryman, Jr. (Anne) of Athens, GA; grandchildren, Kelly Stevens Anderson (Sean), Susannah Stevens Dalling (Christian), Sarah Berryman and Charles Berryman; a great grandchild, Olivia Anderson; a number of other relatives and many friends; and his beloved dog, Grady. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Shivar Berryman; his second wife, Alice Anne Shivar Berryman; and siblings, Clarence Berryman, Vance Berryman, Catherine Tandberg, J. L. Berryman, Pauline Berryman and Johnny Berryman.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Walker United Methodist Church, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. John W. Pike, Jr. officiating. Graveside Services willbe held at 4 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park, 3655 Atlanta Highway, Athens, GA 30606 with Rev. David Shivar officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service on Tuesday at Walker United Methodist Church.
