LTC (Ret.) William E. Joyce, Jr., 93, of Columbus, GA, died Sunday, November 18, 2012 at his home.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, 31907. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 27, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
LTC (Ret.) Joyce was born November 30, 1918 in Pittsfield, MA, son of the late Mr. & Mrs. William E. Joyce, Sr. He served in the United States Army and retired after a distinguished military career. LTC (Ret.) Joyce was a veteran of World War II, Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was also with the 88th Infantry Division, the Blue Devils. During his military career he was awarded numerous awards and commendations which include The Silver Star, The Legion Merit, The Bronze Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster, The Purple Heart, The Meritorious Service Medal, The Army Commendation Medal, The Armed Forces Reserve Medal, The World War II Victory Medal, The Army Occupation Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, The Korean Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, The United Nations Service Medal, The Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
In addition to his parents, LTC (Ret.) Joyce was preceded in death by his loving wife, Josephine and his daughter in law, Gudrun.
Survivors include two sons, LTC (Ret.) William J. Joyce of Berlin, Germany and Michael E. Joyce of Athens, GA; one granddaughter, Christina Joyce and her husband, Yung Soo An of Columbus, GA; one sister, Mary Hanley; numerous nieces and nephews.
In Lieu of flower the family request that donations be made to Vista Care Hospice, 100 Brookstone Centre Parkway, Columbus, GA, 31904.
