Union Point - Bunyan Evans Acree, 85, of Union Point, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at Greene Point Health & Rehabilitation, in Union Point.
Born on April 23, 1926 to Bunyan Augustine and Susan Holmes Acree, he graduated from Union Point High School and Piedmont College. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and retired after 38 years in public education. Mr. Acree served as principal in Union Point, Loganville, Butts County, and Putnam County, and retired from Greene County High School. After his retirement, he served as Headmaster at Nathanael Greene Academy. At one time, Mr. Acree also served on the Union Point City Council.
He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, and served on the finance committee, administrative council, and several other committees, in addition to being a lay minister.
Mr. Acree was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Sybil Thornton Acree, and his siblings, Annette Acree Woolf, Martha Acree Cason, John Thomas Acree, and Isabelle Acree Cofer.
Mr. Acree is survived by his nieces, Louise Cason Bentley, and her husband, Frank, and Evelyn Acree; nephews, Al Cason and Herb Acree; and several great-nieces and -nephews, including his great niece/companion, Cason White.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, at First United Methodist Church, 714 Park Avenue, Union Point, with the Rev. Bert Mathews officiating. Interment will follow in Wisteria Cemetery on Rhodes Street, Union Point. Pallbearers will be Al Cason, Herb Acree, Frank Bentley, Neal Dolvin, Lanier Rhodes, and Henry Sisson.
The family will receive visitors 2-3:30 p.m. Thursday at Callaway Funeral Home, Union Point.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church, 714 Park Ave., Union Point, GA 30669.
