George Thomas Conley, age 88, of Athens, died on Sunday, May 5, 2013.

Born in Greene County, Mr. Conley was the son of the late George R. and Cora Lacey Conley, and was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Conley.
He is survived by his sons, George William Conley, and his wife, Janet, and David Conley, and his wife, Sharon; grandchildren, Karen Rowland, Leslie Daniel, Charlie Conley, Hillary Whiddon, and J.D. Conley; and great-grandchildren, Abie Rowland and Arlowen Whiddon.
Mr. Conley served his country as an MP in the 8th Army Air Force in England and Germany. He retired from Heilig Meyers Furniture, and was an accomplished artist and woodworker. He was a longtime member of Mars Hill Baptist Church, where he was Deacon Emeritus and a member of the Golden Boys Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, at Lord & Stephens East.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, at the Lord & Stephens East Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Jones officiating. Interment will be in Athens Memory Gardens.
