James Campbell Glenn, age 85, died on Sunday, December 2, 2012.
A lifelong Athenian, Mr. Glenn was the son of the late Paul Latimer and Grace Campbell Glenn. He was a 1944 graduate of Athens High School and received his Bachelor of Science in agricultural engineering from the University of Georgia in 1951. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha and the Georgia Men's Glee Club.
While completing his college education, Mr. Glenn took over his father's business, which was started in 1936. His surviving brother joined him in business, and they were incorporated as Glenn Company of Athens in 1962. After this, Mr. Glenn took on other business interests.
Mr. Glenn served in the U.S. Army during World War II, were he was part of the occupation forces in Tokyo and played trombone in General MacArthur's headquarters band. Music was his favorite pastime; he enjoyed big dance bands, jazz, the church choir, and barbershop quartets, and also had a love of dancing.
He was a past member of Central Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, and was most recently a member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church. He was also a former member of the Athens Jaycees, City of Athens Board of Education, and the Athens Country Club.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, June Watts Glenn; daughters, Kimberly Grace Glenn and Beth Glenn (D. Matt) Mullen; grandchildren, Lucille Campbell Mullen and Simon Watts Mullen; and brother, Thomas Latimer (Evelyn) Glenn.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Moeller officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service. Burial was held at Mt. Hebron Presbyterian Church, in Ila.
