Dr. John C. Reynolds Jr. retired University of Georgia Associate Professor and United States Army Reserve Colonel , died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday February 8th after a brief illness.

Dr. Reynolds was preceded in death by parents John Carl and Thelma Reynolds and brother Gerald Reynolds. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Joyce Reynolds of Athens Ga, John Michael Reynolds (Jean) of Lawrenceville, GA , Jeffrey Andrew Reynolds, Athens, GA, grandsons William Reynolds, James Reynolds, Lawrenceville, GA, Eric Prince (Jeni) Cumming, GA, great grandsons Joshua and Brandon Afroozi, Cumming , GA, granddaughters Rebekah Prince, Athens, GA, Kristin Brasher, (Clay) New York, NY, brothers Jimmy Reynolds, Gadsden, AL, Bill Reynolds (Charlotte) Hokes Bluff, AL, and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Athens for 46 years, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.

Known through his life as Johnny, John, Dr. Reynolds and Colonel Reynolds, Dad and Grandad.. John lived a full and vibrant life. He had a deep thirst for knowledge, an avid scholar, leader and teacher throughout his life

He graduated from Gadsden High School. He was an Eagle Scout and later in life served as a Cubmaster for pack 76 in Athens Georgia.
In 1957 he received his B.S. in Biology from Jacksonville State University, served the military from 1957 -59 US Army Armor Division at Ft. Hood,Texas. From 1960-62. He taught Biology at Phillips High School Birmingham, Alabama, 1961 M.A. Educational Administration University of Alabama, 1963-64 Taught Biology Mt Brook Jr. High Birmingham, Alabama, 1964-65 attended the National Science Institute University of Georgia. In1967, received his doctorate Ed.D. from the University of Alabama, that same year he joined UGA's College of Education faculty, in the Department of Curriculum and Supervision and later the Department of Professional Learning and Teacher Education serving thousands of field interns and student teachers. He also served as Consultant to GACIS until 1997 when he retired from UGA.

John also had a very active career in the U. S. Army Reserve. He retired in March 1987 as Colonel after 30 years of service. He was instructor at Fort Bragg's Army Intelligence School. He was also a part of an evaluation team that tested troop readiness and National Guard, Reserve, and active duty units at approximately 50 bases from Puerto Rico to Washington.

His publications include textbooks: Trends Influence Curriculum 1974,Trends and Issues Affecting Curriculum 1977, co- author Trends and Issues Affecting Curriculum: Program and Practices 1980, Contemporary Education in a Perspective 1982, and over 35 articles in educational journals and publications. He also authored a Brief History of First Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be 2PM Monday, February 11th, at the Athens First Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Baxley, Dr. Frank Granger and Dr. Jon Appleton officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Sunday at Bernstein.
