Marie Montez Scott, age 96, of Athens, passed away on April 1, 2013, in Athens.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, at the First Presbyterian Church, with Senior Pastor Dr. Glenn Doak, Associate Pastor the Rev. Julie Thompson, and Parish Associate Dr. John Kipp officiating. There will be a reception at the church following the service.
A native of Athens, Marie was born to Estelle and E. Howard Scott Sr. on February 19, 1917. She attended Athens High School and worked in the University of Georgia Dairy Science Department for 40 years.
Marie was a dedicated, lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was the oldest living member and active in the Hooper Sunday School Class as well as the Ladies Circle Groups. She enjoyed numerous friends and loved to entertain her large family of sisters, brothers, nephews. and nieces.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Estelle, and her siblings, Eugene Scott Jr., Connie Scott, Nan Whitehead, and Stella Hiers. She is survived by her brothers, Julian and George. She is the beloved aunt and grandmother-figure to her nieces and nephews, Susan (deceased), Lee, and Tom; Barbara, Roy, and Linda; Marshall, Jennifer, and Ellen; and Cindy and Peggy. She is also survived by great-nieces and –nephews, as well as many, many close friends.
