George Ray Alewine, age 74, of the Eagle Grove community in Hart County, went to his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 5, 2013.
The Guest Book is expired.
Born in Bowersville to the late Obie and Louise Hill Alewine, Ray graduated from Hart County High School and attended Massey Business College. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served on the aircraft carrier Saratoga. He lived for most of his adult years in Mableton and Lilburn, working 31 years for Sears and an additional 12 years for Baxter/Allegiance. He and his beloved wife, Corrie, retired to Eagle Grove in 2002 and restored Corrie's maternal grandparents' home.
Ray very much enjoyed life on the farm, time with his family and neighbors, and his church. He was a member and former Deacon at Cornerstone Baptist Church, where he was a faithful, active servant until his battle with cancer began five years ago.
Ray is survived by the love of his life, his wife of almost 52 years, Corrie Lunsford Alewine; son, Todd Alewine, of Eagle Grove; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Kelly Alewine, and their children, Logan, Miranda, and Nolan, all of Hoschton; beloved sister-in-law, Elaine Lunsford Weeks, of Athens; brothers, Robert Alewine, of Lilburn, and Joe Alewine; and many special cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, at Strickland Funeral Home, Hartwell.
A service to celebrate Ray's home-going will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 8, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, with the Rev. Terry Meeks officiating. Burial will be in Bowersville City Cemetery.
